Prayer Prompt April 13
SCRIPTURE
Matthew 21:6–11 (NRSVUE)
The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them; they brought the donkey and the colt and put their cloaks on them, and he sat on them. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting,
“Hosanna to the Son of David!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
Hosanna in the highest heaven!”When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil, asking, “Who is this?” The crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.”
REFLECTION
Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week, the most sacred days in the Christian year. Jesus enters Jerusalem not as a warrior king on a horse, but as a humble servant on a donkey. The crowd cheers, shouting "Hosanna!"—a cry for salvation—but many will later call for his crucifixion. Today is a moment to ask: What kind of Savior are we expecting? Are we willing to follow the one who comes in humility, riding into our hearts with peace instead of power? How is the Holy Spirit speaking to you through this Scripture?
PRAYER
Jesus, Son of David, I welcome You with praise and thanksgiving. Help me to see You clearly—not as I expect You to be, but as You truly are. Teach me to follow You in humility and faith, even when the path leads through suffering. Prepare my heart for the journey of Holy Week. Amen.
