Caregiver:

The role of a caregiver can be an uncertain and isolating journey. The Legacy Club Community Respite Ministry for adults at Peachtree Christian Church wants to partner with caregivers and their loved ones to ease their burden and return joy to their hearts.

Caregivers often neglect their own physical, mental and emotional well-being to care for their loved ones. The Legacy Club Respite Ministry provides caregivers with much-needed free time to attend to their own needs and desires. We invite the caregiver to experience the joy of respite with their loved one and when they feel comfortable, we encourage them to take time away and rest, relax, or do whatever they enjoy.

If you are caring for someone who has dementia, Parkinson's, Down syndrome, is a stroke victim, or has another challenge, please contact us to see if we could be a good fit for you and your loved one.

As a source of support, we aim to provide caregivers with rest, resources, and relationships.

  • Rest: relax knowing that their loved ones are being cared for with dignity, purpose, and joy

  • Resources: stay up to date on best practices for improving overall health including cognition and sharing information that may keep your loved one home for longer

  • Relationships: meet other caregivers who are walking a similar path and build community

Admission Criteria for the loved one:

Participants are first interviewed by the Director or her designee to ensure the applicant is medically stable and able to interact and socialize with others in a group setting. Participants must be able to do all of the following to enroll in respite:

  • Self-feed

  • Self-toilet

  • Ambulate independently with or without assistive devices and with no potential danger to themselves or others

  • Demonstrate the ability to exhibit acceptable behavior in a group setting

Initial screening is conducted by the Director or her designee in a telephone interview. If the interview is successful, applicants are invited to visit the program along with their caregivers. If the visit is favorable, an application for participation will be offered to the caregiver. The application, along with a non-refundable $75 registration fee, must be returned to the Director prior to participation. The application will be processed by the Director or her designee, and the participant will be added to the roster. The daily fee for respite is $50 per day (this includes a delicious and nutritious lunch).

*Vaccinations are required for all volunteers and participants.
