Jarrod's Fave Five - Lenten Edition

My Fave Five ways to Make Space this Lent:

1.) Make Space for God by realizing that you are a needy, finite being: Sacred Calendars: Ash Wednesday with Alison Milbank

Prof. Milbank explains Ash Wednesday to us....and it really reminds us of our creatureliness.

2.) Make Space for God by saying good, penitential prayers: Lenten Prayer of St. Ephrem

This prayer comes from St. Ephrem the Syrian, and it is a version of one that we'll say during our Lenten season. I think it hits the nail on the head.

O Lord and Master of my life, take from me the spirit of sloth, despair, lust of power, and idle talk.
But give rather the spirit of chastity, humility, patience, and love to Thy servant.

Yea, O Lord and King, grant me to see my own transgressions, and not to judge my brother, for blessed art Thou, unto ages of ages. Amen.

3.) Make Space for God by realizing your need for Mercy
"The Brilliance" has an entire album on Lenten themes. Here is just one of the ones I like. Honestly, you could listen and meditate on any of them.

4.) Make Space for God by praying and reading daily during Lent: Lenten Prayer Guide

Rev. Chambers put together an extraordinary resource for your daily devotional life. Follow it daily, in and out of Lent...and grow closer to God.

5.) Make Space for God by carving out time in your week: Invitation to Midday Prayer
Come and pray in the middle of your week.  Make space in your week, so God can recharge you.
